This book may look a bit dated to some. Yet, the patterns and practices here are what CD is all about. Sure, now we have more tooling that will support this practice, but I think to understand what it is all about you need to read this book.

It will guide you through the different parts of CD, starting with fundamentals and moving deeper. It will also clearly define all the different terms used. And it is the canonical definitions. There has been a lot of semantic diffusion over the years. But to understand how and why CD is such a powerful practice, we need to understand what each term actually means as defined here.

I’d go so far as to say that if you want to be successful in modern software engineering this is a must read. As are some of the other books listed here, like TDD by example and Refactoring.
